A year from now you can expect the price to come down substantially. These prices are presale prices for technology that is just being released. If this thing EQUALS the Coolscan 9000 it should supplant it. If I'm going to drop four figures on something the fact that a rather solid looking piece of kit is 100% up to date and rolled off the assembly line mere weeks prior to my purchase counts for a lot. people are buying firewire cards just to get the Coolscan 9000 up and running.
